The bleeding can be either heavy or light and can last from a couple of seconds to more than ten minutes. Sometimes, symptoms like weakness, dizziness, fainting and confusion may accompany a nosebleed. Anyone can have a nosebleed, but it is most common among the children ages from two to ten and for adult ages from 50 to 80. There are various reasons that can cause a nosebleed. The most common cause is dry air, which dries out the nasal membranes.
There are few more reasons which include frequent nose blowing, allergic reactions, exposure to chemical irritants, an injury to the nose, excessive heat, repeated sneezing, high altitudes, hard scratching or picking the nose, excessive smoking, alcohol abuse and taking large doses of aspirin.
Nosebleed can also cause due to deficiency of some nutrients, upper respiratory infection, blood clotting disorders, hormonal changes during pregnancy, high blood pressure, and cancer as well.

1.) Pinch the Nose to Stop a Nosebleed
The time-honored pinch cure is the easiest way to stop a nosebleed. When you pinch the nose it sends pressure to the bleeding point in the nasal septum, which immediately helps to stop the flow of blood.
Directions:
- In this method, you will need to sit straight with head tilted slightly forward.
- Now, using your thumb and index finger, pinch the soft part of your nose just below the bony bridge.
- Do this for five to ten minutes. While doing so, breathe from your mouth.
- Sit quietly for 5 minutes and release the pressure gently.
- Until the bleeding stops repeat as necessary.
- Note: Do not lay flat, put your head between your legs or tilt your head back. Also, do not blow your nose.

- In a thin towel wrap a few ice cubes.

- During a nosebleed please do not lie down. As an alternative keep your head elevated and above your heart. Breathe from your mouth.
- Once the bleeding has stopped, sit up straight with your head tilting slightly forward. Also, you should avoid blowing your nose or any kind of exertion for couple of hours.
- As the air does not become too dry you should use a humidifier in your bedroom.
- You should drink an ample amount of water every day to keep the mucous membranes moist.
- Take a warm shower and breathe deeply to keep your nose moist.
- You must avoid smoke as it will irritate and dries out nasal passages.
