Cut your own hair

Steps to Cut your Own Hair at Home:

1.) Method 1 to Cut your Own Hair

Things You Will Need to Cut Your Own Hair:

  • Sharp haircutting scissors
  • Comb
  • Mirrors

Directions:

  • Before you begin, place a mirror in front of you and another mirror on the wall backside so that you can see the back of your head as well.
  • Wash, towel dry and comb your hair thoroughly. Cover your shoulders with a towel or a sheet.
  • Then, begin by combing your hair straight out from the crown part of your head, all around your head just like a lampshade. This means it will wrap and frame your face, and that is where you will be starting.
  • Start by cutting around the face first, trim the bangs. But make sure that bangs reach your brows since they will shrink later on.
  • Next, you will need to cut a small part at a time to get the desired length. Began with the bangs and target towards one ear. Make sure you always include a bit of hair from the previous section and cut to that extent if you want to keep all in one length. When you arrive at the front of one ear, go over again in a similar manner on the other side to the front of another ear.
  • Then, get back to the first ear and keep on trimming at the back of the ear. Take one section at a time. Try to trim as far as you can before the angle becomes too hard to see from the front mirror.
  • When the angle becomes too tough to see, switch to your other ear, and recur the same process.
  • When the angle is too tough to spot, it means you are done with the sides. This will leave you with the least possible section to cut at the back, and which is also the toughest task to do.
  • Now, face your mirror so that you can see the backside of your head. Then trim the back section to match and attach your two side sections. Cutting in the mirror is quite complicated, as every movement will be backwards. Be patient and take your time.
  • Next, pull your hair out from the front and behind both ears and look at the front mirror to ensure if they are even. Trim if require.
  • Style as you normally would and you are done!

2.) Method 2 to Cut Your Own Hair

Things You Will Need to Cut Your Own Hair:

  • A brush
  • A scrunchie
  • A handheld mirror
  • A pair of scissors for hair

NOTE: Always make sure that the scrunchie is made up of a slick fabric; something which clutches the hair and make this task complicated. Also, you need to make sure that you are using the right scissors. The scissors which you use for cutting random things around the home are not considered ideal. You can purchase some nice hair scissors from any local store nearby your home. It won’t cause you much money.

Also, it is suggested that you cut your hair right after you have washed and dried it thoroughly. This is because it is easy and best to cut your hair when it is dry and free of tangles.

It is also suggested to have a hand-held  mirror and a large wall mirror so that you can see as how and what exactly you are doing in the back.

Directions:

  • Firstly, you will need to part your hair as you do normally and will need to make a low ponytail. It is the basic step to part your hair because if you comb it all back, it will not fall as it usually does. After you are done the trimming and would have to remove the scrunchie, it will be a different thing from straight when it is parted again. If you do not part your hair normally, you can do a middle part as it is considered to be the safest way.
  • Next, after the partition is made take a scrunchie to tie your hair into a low ponytail. Make sure it is right at the top of your neck and also it is in the middle of your head. You can use your handheld mirror to check it.
  • Then, you will need to pull the scrunchie gently down to the length of your hair. Be careful as to prevent yourself from pulling it to one side more. This may require a fair bit of practice. You should keep a check with your hand mirror as you work on it.
  • In case your hair is too long, you may want to pull the scrunchie from the underside.
  • While pulling, make sure you leave three to four inches of hair below the scrunchie.
  • After that, you will need to grab the scrunchie and the hair below it firmly. Then, gently bring it around to your front.
  • If you find that it is moved a bit, it is better if give it another go. This is because the hair which you will be cutting should look quite straight across – although not absolutely perfect as hair is always growing at different pace.
  • An ideal rule of thumb which you should follow is to cut a very little part at a time. 1/2 inch is sufficient. This way you can keep a check in the mirror to ensure that you’ve done it right before you proceed to next step.
  • In this step, simply grip the ends of your hair tightly between two fingers and trim it straight across.
  • Once you are done cutting the ends straight across, you will need to hold the scissors vertically to make some tiny snips.
  • This is done in order to soften the bluntness of the hair cut and will also help in hiding small mistakes.
  • And congratulation, you’re done.
